Discussing Dispassion from Vasistha’s Yoga
2h 12m
Bentinho begins this talk with a reading from “Chapter 1: On Dispassion” of the ancient Indian text known as the Yoga Vasistha. The text discusses the restless quality of the mind (passion), as well as the illusory nature of time and the world. From here, a dialogue with his team ensues, starting with the topic of depression and how it can be re-contexualized in a positive light. Depression can sometimes happen when a mature/old soul is ready for something other than what conventional reality has to offer. If there is identification with that state and its underlying lack beliefs / sense of limitation, then instead of experiencing it as a passing phase, a longer state of hopelessness can set in. But even this state of hopelessness can be used as a catalyst, and if a surrender takes place within that despondency, it can give rise to the seeking for wisdom and the greater subtlety of one’s True Self.
